Safe operation of gas equipment.
Currently, there has been an increase in accidents during the operation of domestic gas water heaters. The cause is carbon monoxide, which enters the premises due to faulty chimneys. To avoid tragic consequences of carbon monoxide poisoning, it is necessary to timely check the condition and clean the chimneys and ventilation ducts. The initial inspection of the serviceability and suitability for operation of smoke and ventilation ducts in residential or non-residential premises is carried out before gas supply only by specialized organizations with appropriate accreditation, upon applications from owners of residential or non-residential premises and (or) their representatives, and in their presence. Subsequent inspections of smoke and ventilation ducts are carried out by specialized organizations or owners of residential or non-residential premises who have undergone special training and are authorized based on the training results to perform the specified work, with registration of the inspection in the logbook of repeated inspection and cleaning results of smoke and ventilation ducts. Premises where gas-using equipment is installed must be ventilated, ventilation duct grilles must be open and in good working order.
The following are strictly prohibited during the operation of domestic gas water heaters:
- allowing persons under 14 years of age, persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as well as those who have not undergone instruction at the gas supply organization and are not familiar with the rules for safe operation of these appliances to use the appliances;
- unauthorized connection and disconnection of gas-using equipment, its relocation using welding, as well as reconnection to rubberized fabric or flexible hoses.

- use gas-consuming equipment designed for cooking for heating premises;
- use gas-consuming equipment in case of malfunction, upon detection of a gas odor, in case of malfunction of gas pipelines, fittings, automation devices.
Violation of safety requirements when using gas equipment entails administrative liability in the form of a fine in accordance with Article 20.9 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus, in the amount of 4 to 20 basic units. Also, the gas supply organization has the right to stop gas supply to the consumer for violating the rules of gas use in everyday life.
Only through the joint efforts of homeowners, gas supply organizations, tenants and apartment owners can human lives be ensured.
