Safe stove
In 2021, 27 fires occurred in the district (21 in the same period of 2020), resulting in 8 fatalities (3 in the same period of 2020).
One of the main causes of fires was the violation of rules for the design, installation, and operation of stoves, heat-generating units, and devices – 6 cases (22.2%).
To protect your property from fire, it is necessary to observe elementary safety rules:
Before lighting a stove or kitchen range, ensure they are in good working order. Cracks and gaps in the masonry must be carefully sealed with clay.
We strongly recommend that homeowners whitewash chimneys – soot deposits make it easy to detect and repair dangerous cracks.
Please note that the stoves are designed for moderate firing. In severe frosts, to avoid overheating the stoves, it is advisable to fire them twice a day with an interval.
The firebox door must be closed, and the firewood length should not exceed the depth of the firebox, otherwise hot coals and embers will fall onto the floor. To prevent the wooden floor from igniting from fallen coals, a sheet of roofing iron at least 70 by 50 centimeters must be nailed in front of the firebox opening. Flammable and combustible liquids must not be used for lighting the fire.
Under no circumstances should you leave a lit stove unattended, and do not entrust children with supervising it. It is dangerous to stack firewood and other flammable items near the doors.
Hanging laundry or clothes near the stoves for drying is also unsafe.
The stove requires regular maintenance. Once every two
chimneys should be cleaned monthly, as soot accumulates on their walls in large quantities. When it burns, sparks fly into the air, often leading to fires.
Hot ash from stoves should be poured into a pit, away from buildings, after extinguishing it with water, sand, or snow.
Remember that your safety and the well-being of your loved ones directly depend on observing each of these simple rules.
In addition, we would like to note that non-compliance with fire safety rules may entail administrative penalties. For example, in 2021, 11 citizens were brought to administrative responsibility for violating fire safety requirements during the operation of stove heating.
Beshenkovichi Regional Emergency Situations Department reminds that in accordance with Article 24.36, Part 4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus, a fine of up to fifteen base units is imposed for violating fire safety requirements for the organization of the technological process, placement and operation of heat-generating apparatuses and heating devices, as well as heat-consuming stoves, and up to [amount] for a legal entity.
