Safe Epiphany Swims. Ministry of Emergency Situations Reminds of Basic Rules

Andrei Voitk, Head of the Diving Training Department of the Diving and Rescue Center of the Republican Detachment of Special Purpose "ZUBR" of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, reminded of the basic safety rules for swimming on Epiphany during a press conference, a BELTA correspondent reports.

"You should bring non-slip slippers with you. You can also bring a mat to step on when getting out of the water. You should also bring warm robes, towels, a change of dry clothes, and a thermos with hot tea. You should immerse yourself in specially equipped ice holes in the presence of rescuers. Before swimming, you need to warm up your body, do some exercises and a light jog. You should approach the ice hole in comfortable, non-slip, easy-to-remove footwear to prevent loss of leg sensitivity. Rubber slippers can be used to protect your feet from sharp stones and prevent slipping on the ice. You should also remember that the path can be slippery, so you need to move slowly and carefully. After swimming, you need to warm up, rub your body with a towel, and put on dry clothes. To strengthen immunity and prevent hypothermia, it is recommended to drink hot tea, preferably herbal or berry tea," said Andrei Voitk.

What is prohibited in bathing areas? "It is forbidden to swim while intoxicated, to perform actions related to diving and underwater swimming, to give false alarm signals, to pollute and litter water bodies and shores, to bring dogs and other animals, to gather in groups on the ice near the edge of the ice hole, to go beyond the fence. Swimming for children is allowed only with parents or adult relatives. It is also recommended to immerse oneself up to the neck without wetting the head to avoid reflex vasoconstriction of the brain. When entering the water, one should try to quickly reach the desired depth. It is not recommended to stay in the font for more than one minute to avoid general hypothermia of the body," the head of the department emphasized.
