A delegation from the Beshenkovichi district visited Moscow, where they participated in events dedicated to the launch of the Belarusian-Russian project "Stones of Memory".
The initiative is dedicated to immortalizing the heroism of Belarusian and Russian sailors who defended the legendary Malaya Zemlya.
Among them is our countryman, military aircraft pilot Stepan Kovalenok, whose remains were found near the resort town of Gelendzhik. The ashes of the defender of the homeland, thanks to the efforts of parliamentarians of Belarus and Russia, were laid to rest in their native land three years ago.
Since then, Beshenkovichi and Gelendzhik have been forever bound by ties of brotherhood and strong friendship.
Last year, as part of the "Dozhinki-2025" festival, a solemn transfer of six boulders took place to the memorial sites of the joint feat of Belarusians and Russians during the Great Patriotic War in Gelendzhik. They will be sent to their destination in the near future.
As noted by Arseniy Kritsky, head of the international public-patriotic movement "Maritime Brotherhood is Indestructible!", by November 27, the Day of the Marine Corps, all stones, symbolizing the frozen tears of a mother for her fallen sons, will be installed in Russian cities where maritime brotherhood was strengthened.
During the event, artifacts related to the feat of Belarusian sailors, as well as paintings that previously adorned the interiors of combat ships of the Soviet fleet, were transferred to our local history museum.
And the performances of the participants of the drum and baton ensemble "Ritm" of the Beshenkovichi School of Arts became a bright decoration of the memorial events.
