On July 5, a delegation from the Beshenkovichi district participated in the festive events at the Mound of Friendship.
This is one of the oldest patriotic events. It was first held in 1959.
This year, Belarusians and Russians gathered at the Mound of Friendship at the junction of Verkhnedvinsk district and Pskov region for the 66th time.
The Mound of Friendship is a historical memorial complex erected in memory of the mutual assistance and cooperation of partisan detachments of the Russian, Belarusian, and Latvian peoples during the Great Patriotic War against the German fascist invaders. This complex is located at the junction of the borders of three countries – Russia, Belarus, and Latvia. It has become a symbol of unity and peace, reminding of the importance of interethnic friendship and solidarity in the fight against a common enemy.
Unfortunately, for several years now, the Latvian side has not been participating in the solemn events. The bridge over the river connecting the two states has been destroyed. Latvia has fenced itself off from us with a very high fence... But these circumstances have not affected the attitude of Belarusians and Russians towards common memory. We remember!
The Mound of Friendship is a unique memorial complex designed to remind current generations of the value of peace, friendship, and solidarity, which are the foundation for the prosperity and development of every country.
This opinion was expressed by the head of the deputy corps, Gennady Shvedov.
"The war made this land common, as well as the history, the pain of loss, the pride for those who stood firm, did not surrender to the enemy, and preserved their land.
In contrast to Western countries, Belarus and Russia preserve monuments to Soviet soldiers, passing on the memory of the feat of the victors to younger generations. We will never forget!"
Gennady Shvedov is confident that the tradition of holding the Mound of Friendship will be preserved for many centuries, and the friendship between the fraternal peoples of Russia and Belarus will grow stronger every year.
"During the Great Patriotic War, residents of different countries stood shoulder to shoulder, united by one goal – the desire to defend the independence of their Motherland and destroy hated fascism. We will strongly resist attempts to rewrite our history."
