Administrative liability for the illegal sale or storage of nets or netting materials was introduced in January 2018 by Article 15.36 of the Code of the Republic of Belarus on Administrative Offenses.

The State Inspectorate for Wildlife and Plant Protection under the President of the Republic of Belarus is conducting a large-scale campaign to withdraw poaching nets from circulation. Citizens are invited to voluntarily surrender any nets, netting materials, and net fishing gear they possess. In this case, they will not be held liable for storing prohibited fishing gear.
