"House without Fire" is the name of a special preventive event by the Ministry of Emergency Situations to be held in the Beshenkovichi district from April 17 to April 23.
The purpose of this event is to reduce the risks of fires in residential buildings and fatalities resulting from them, and to enhance the life safety culture among the population.
Since the beginning of the year, the Vitebsk region has recorded an increase in fires (241 in 2024, 273 in 2025). 29 people have died in fires, which is 11 more cases than in 2024. In February of the current year, two people died in fires in the Beshenkovichi district.
For instance, on February 27th at 05:17, rescuers responded to a report of a house fire on Zarechnaya Street in the village of Gankovichi.
The house was inhabited by a retired couple, born in 1949 and 1954, and their son, a Group II disabled person, born in 1981. At the time of the fire, the woman was visiting her sister; the men were in the house. They were later found by rescuers under collapsed structures.
According to the preliminary version, the cause of the fire was carelessness while smoking by the deceased.
A significant portion of fires in the region occurs precisely due to careless handling of fire, including smoking. Often, such incidents are accompanied by the death of one person, and sometimes a group of people who were "relaxing" beforehand.
Based on the social profile of citizens perishing in fires, the route of EMERCOM employees is clearly defined – it includes households and apartments of citizens leading an antisocial lifestyle, as well as lonely pensioners, disabled individuals, and families with children, primarily those households where children are recognized as being in a socially dangerous situation.
Statistics show that most fires and citizen deaths occur in rural areas and are recorded in the territories of Beshenkovichi and Ullsky rural Soviets. That is why preventive measures will be carried out in these settlements.
Among the main tasks of the special preventive event, rescuers highlight: informing the public about the state of fire safety, explaining to citizens the consequences of non-compliance with fire safety rules, and studying the state of fire safety of housing stock facilities.
