Two representatives from the Vitebsk region included in the Youth Council under the Central Election Commission
A new Youth Council under the Central Election Commission has been formed in Belarus, comprising active and goal-oriented individuals. Two representatives from the Vitebsk region are among its members: Ekaterina Raemskaya, a trainee lecturer at the Department of Criminal Law, and Anton Bulynya, a law student at VSU named after P. Masherov.
Over the next two years, they will work on enhancing the legal culture and electoral activity of youth.
For Ekaterina Raemskaya, this is not her first experience; her work in the council began in 2023 when the advisory and consultative body was just being established. She is full of energy and ready to share her knowledge with the youth of the Vitebsk region so that everyone understands the importance of participating in elections and referendums.
– The main task of the Youth Council is the legal education of the younger generation. We will communicate with teenagers, students, and young specialists, explaining why elections and referendums are necessary. Young men and women should realize that every vote counts, – Ekaterina Raemskaya is convinced.
The fundamental law of Belarus is the Constitution. According to Ekaterina, it is the main source of information about our state structure.
– The Constitution has a chapter dedicated to the electoral system and referendums, from which we draw information. Textbooks and theoretical materials are an important addition to this, – shared a member of the Youth Council. – In addition, we participated in the II International Electoral Forum, which featured representatives from the Central Election Commissions of the CIS countries and states cooperating with the Republic of Belarus. The information presented at this event will also be used for training and informing the younger generation about elections and democratic processes in our country.
The Youth Council is a standing advisory and consultative body designed to promote the improvement of voters' legal culture.
Working in the Youth Council is not only prestigious but also a great responsibility.
– We participate in the formation of democratic values and strive to ensure that young people understand how the electoral system functions, – noted Anton Bulynya.
Council members plan to hold educational events: lectures, quizzes, meetings with schoolchildren, gymnasium students, lyceum students, university students, and youth groups. The topics of such events are elections and the socio-political life of the country.
In addition, young people will actively participate in information campaigns and projects of the Central Election Commission, putting forward unique proposals to improve interaction with youth in the electoral sphere. This initiative significantly contributes to the involvement of young men and women in democratic processes.
– Our target audience is teenagers from 14 years old, as in four years they will come to the polling stations for the first time. We need to show them that elections are not just ticks in ballots, but a conscious decision, – explained the young man.
Representatives of the Vitebsk region are confident that working in the Youth Council is not only self-realization but also an opportunity to make an important contribution to the future of Belarus.
– This is an opportunity to apply one's knowledge in practice, to clarify complex issues that young people face, – Anton summarized.
