Opinion: People in positions of power should be devoted to their nation and their country

People in positions of power should be devoted to their nation and their country. Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova made the statement at a session of the seventh-convocation Council of the Republic on 13 May, BelTA has learned.

The upper chamber of the parliament passed a bill on civil service on 13 May.

Natalya Kochanova said: “We've been working on the bill for a long time – for four years. Approaches have been revised at conferences hosted by the president three times. And certainly we have to clearly understand that civil service is akin to military service. The bill clearly defines what military service is and what civil service is.”

The head of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament underlined that people, who apply for civil service jobs, need to understand that they serve the country, the nation, the state. “This is why it is a very important bill, in my opinion, in order for the people in positions of power to be devoted to their nation and their country. It is an absolutely right approach,” she stated.

The bill is expected to enhance the prestige of civil service, increase the status of civil servants, keep the best people in civil service, and attract highly professional and enterprising specialists to civil service jobs.
