Belarus-Russia Union State MPs to monitor elections in Belarus

Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union States will make part of the CIS observation mission to monitor the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the Parliamentary Assembly.

The delegation will consist of six members representing both houses of the Russian Parliament and members of the Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly. The delegation will be led by Leonid Slutsky, a member of the Parliamentary Assembly commission for information policy, Chairman of the State Duma committee for the CIS countries, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots.

The MPs will visit polling stations in Minsk and in all regions of Belarus, meet with the officials of Belarus' Central Election Commission, regional election commissions, with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Belarus Alexander Surikov, and also with representatives of regional legislative and executive authorities.

On 12 September, representatives of the CIS observation mission will hold a press conference on the results of the election monitoring.

After the announcement of the official results of the elections to the National Assembly, some Belarusian MPs will be delegated to the Parliamentary Assembly. In accordance with the Treaty on the Belarus-Russia Union State, in the Parliamentary Assembly the two countries are represented by 36 members of parliament of the participating states.
