Once again on security
The agro-town of Ulla, located in the Beshenkovichi district, is known for its tragic statistics nationwide. In December 2021, three people died in a residential building fire here. This year, a man born in 1987 sustained burns to 90% of his body in a fire and died a few days later in a healthcare facility. The causes of the aforementioned fires are identical – alcohol combined with an unextinguished cigarette.
This past weekend, rescuers from the Beshenkovichi district decided to conduct a large-scale preventive event in the agro-town to refresh citizens' knowledge of life safety rules and remind them of the settlement's grim statistics.
Rescuers decided to approach this issue comprehensively. First, the most visited public places in the agro-town were identified. These included three retail outlets, the Ulla House of Culture, and the post office. Here, activists of the Belarusian Youth Public Association of Rescuers-Firefighters – students of the Ulla State Vocational Lyceum named after L.M. Dovator – updated information on information boards, handed out thematic leaflets to visitors, and also left leaflets on information stands. A safety post was set up in the most popular store in the agro-town. Here, an inspector from the propaganda sector for life safety and interaction with the public of the Beshenkovichi District Department for Emergency Situations...
Daria Beresten reminded those present of safety rules in residential buildings and procedures in case of fire.
Concurrently with this work in the agro-town, a survey commission operated under the leadership of Gennady Anashko, Chairman of the Rural Executive Committee. The inspection of residences of citizens registered for alcohol abuse became a priority for the commission. Additionally, 7 more rescuers from the Beshenkovichi District Department for Emergency Situations checked the safety of citizens' homes and conducted explanatory talks. During the inspection of households, all citizens were invited to a village meeting, scheduled for 13:00 at the rural house of culture, as the final stage of the preventive event.
During the village meeting, Gennady Anashko, Chairman of the Rural Executive Committee, Yevgeny Mukho, district inspector of the Department of Internal Affairs at the Beshenkovichi District Executive Committee, and Alexey Golub, Deputy Head of the Beshenkovichi District Department for Emergency Situations, summarized the results of the household inspections, discussed identified shortcomings in fire safety and general life safety. Issues concerning safety on water bodies in the district and region were also addressed. The statistics here are also discouraging. Ten people have drowned in the region's water bodies since the beginning of 2023. Excessive self-confidence in one's own experience and the absence of water rescue equipment are the main risk factors when venturing onto thin ice in the spring.
Residents of the agro-town actively participated in the dialogue, asked questions about the rules for tidying up private plots and cemeteries, as well as about the responsibility for burning dry vegetation.
At the end of the event, all attendees received thematic memos and promised to pay more attention to life safety issues.
