Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus Andrei Shved visited a previously unknown burial site discovered in a forest near the villages of Sloboda and Bortniki

08.09.2022 Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus Andrei Shved visited a previously unknown burial site of genocide victims among civilians, discovered in a forest near the villages of Sloboda and Bortniki in the Beshenkovichi district.

The burial site was identified as part of the investigation into the criminal case of genocide, during which information obtained from local residents was analyzed, and archival data, including those received from the State Archive of the Russian Federation, were studied. One of the acts from 1945 contains information about the execution of 365 civilians in October 1942 and their burial near the village of Sloboda.

Currently, remains have been exhumed, a significant part of which belongs to women and children.

Among the recovered items are numerous fragments of shoes, including children's, buttons, comb fragments, as well as cartridges, casings, some of which are marked on the base with 1938 stamps and an emblem 88 in the form of two characteristic lightning bolts.
