The State Automobile Inspectorate of the Beshenkovichi district will hold a preventive event "Flicker Control!"

To prevent pedestrian traffic accidents, the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Beshenkovichi District is organizing the preventive event "Flicker Control!", aimed at improving road safety and promoting the use of retroreflective elements.

According to the results of the first ten months of the current year in the Vitebsk region, 83 traffic accidents involving pedestrians were registered, resulting in 13 deaths and 72 injuries. Pedestrians were at fault in 24 of these accidents, with 9 people killed and 15 injured.

Why is it important to wear retroreflective elements?

Darkness, poor visibility, and weather conditions significantly increase risks for pedestrians. Retroreflective elements, such as flickers, help drivers notice a person on the road in advance, which in turn reduces the likelihood of accidents. According to research, a pedestrian with retroreflective elements is visible to a driver from a distance of up to 150 meters, while without them – only from 30–50 meters.

Goals and objectives of the event

On November 15, State Automobile Inspectorate officers will be conducting checks on the roads of the Beshenkovichi District, verifying compliance with the rules for wearing retroreflective elements. Special attention will be paid to children, teenagers, and the elderly, as they are at increased risk.

The event is also aimed at informing citizens about the necessity of using retroreflective elements, such as flickers, bracelets, and patches, which can be attached to clothing, bags, and backpacks.
