Internet scammers
Recently, online scammers have been increasingly stealing money from bank cards. Over 5 months of 2024, 5 cybercrimes were registered in the Beshenkovichi district, in only one of which the suspected person has been identified.
2 serious crimes were registered, in one of which the amount of damage was about 19 thousand rubles:
In May 2024, a resident of the Beshenkovichi district found an advertisement for earning money on the social network "Instagram". This advertisement interested her, and after some time, scammers contacted her and offered stable earnings on an online exchange. However, initial capital was required for earnings. During further communication, the scammers convinced the woman to transfer about 19,000 rubles to accounts in a foreign country. When the woman realized she had been deceived, it was too late; the funds could not be recovered.
Currently, 2 main methods of deception are widely used:
"Vishing", which involves attackers spoofing the real phone number with a bank's phone number and impersonating bank employees or law enforcement officers. Under the pretext of canceling a transaction, they extort confidential information from cardholders – the number, expiration date, three-digit code on the back – or induce them to install software (remote access) for actions ininternet or m-banking.
"Phishing," the goal of which is to obtain bank payment card details. The attacker, under any fraudulent pretext, forces the victim to follow a link to a fake internet resource and enter the card number, expiration date, and CVV code there in order to steal this data and "empty" the bank account. Cybercriminals skillfully fake various popular internet resources that provide services to the public and have online payment capabilities: online marketplaces, delivery services, retail chain websites, and so on.
We also remind you that the protection of funds depends on the citizens themselves, by following simple internet security rules:
1.The most important thing is never, under any pretext, give anyone your bank card number or your card's security code. If your acquaintance or friend writes to you, genuinely needing help, call them back and make sure it is indeed them. In any case, do not share your personal bank card data through social networks.
2.In the social network "VKontakte," there is a function for an additional level of security. Go to settings and use it. Then, if someone tries to hack your page, you will receivemobile phone notification;
3. Enable 3D-Secure, an additional password to protect your card for all online purchases. The bank will explain how to do this. If it is enabled, then to make a payment online, you will need to enter a special code, which the bank will send you via SMS. Without this code, money will not be withdrawn from your card.
