Internet scammers have not bypassed the Beshenkovichi district

Recently, internet fraudsters have been

2)   Phishing, the goal of which is to obtain bank payment card details. The attacker, under any fraudulent pretext, forces the victim to follow a link to a fake internet resource and enter the card number, expiration date, and CVV code there in order to steal this data and "empty" the bank account. Cybercriminals skillfully forge various popular internet resources that provide services to the public and have online payment services: online marketplaces, delivery services, retail chain websites, and so on.

Residents of our district have also been affected by this problem:

1)    In March 2023, a resident of the urban-type settlement of Beshenkovichi applied to the Department of Internal Affairs of the Beshenkovichi District Executive Committee. She reported that fraudsters had stolen 14,000 Belarusian rubles from her. The woman stated that she was contacted in the "«Telegram» messenger by an individual claiming to be an employee of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus. This individual explained that a loan of 9,000 rubles had been taken out in the victim's name. To repay this loan and expose the fraudsters, she was instructed to take out a loan from OJSC "ASB Belarusbank" and then transfer the funds to an account specified by the bank employee. Subsequently, the citizen went to a branch of OJSC "ASB Belarusbank", where she took out a loan of 14,000 rubles, which she then transferred to the criminals' account.

2)    In May 2023, a resident of the town of Beshenkovichi applied to the Department of Internal Affairs of the Beshenkovichi District Executive Committee, whose funds, approximately 130 Belarusian rubles, were stolen by online scammers. The victim explained that she wanted to purchase clothing from the online store "man.s_clab_» on the social network "Instagram". During correspondence with the seller, she agreed on the purchase terms with him, after which she transferred the funds to the bank account provided by the seller. Subsequently, the latter stopped communicating, and the victim never received the purchased goods.

How to protect yourself from online money theft?

1. Do not disclose your card details and SMS codes from the bank, as well as logins and passwords for services to anyone;

2. Do not install software at the request of third parties and do not provide registration codes;

3. Do not apply for loans at the request of third parties;

4. Do not transfer money to a "secure account";

5. Do not transfer money for a relative through "his acquaintance".

6. Activate the 3D-Secure function - an additional password to protect your card for any online purchases. The bank will explain how to do this. If it is activated, then to make a payment online, you will need to enter a special code, which the bank will send you via SMS. Without this code, money will not be withdrawn from your card.
