«Catalyst» for Global Fires
The warm days are coming to an end, and soon autumn will come into its own, completely painting the once green grass and tree leaves in orange hues. For many people, this is a wonderful time to take many photographs in the fallen golden foliage, go on a nature retreat or to a country house. For rescuers, however, fallen autumn leaves and dried grass are primarily a cause for concern, as they can become a "catalyst" for the development of large-scale fires.
"Untimely cleaning of the territories adjacent to residential buildings is a condition that contributes to the development of fires. In other words, it all comes down to one thing: if order is established on the ground initially, then there will be nothing to burn. As long as there is combustible material, there will be an ignition source. If the grass is mowed on the plot, then the owners are essentially not threatened by anything," the rescuers note.
It is worth remembering that maintaining order on the plot is, first and foremost, the responsibility of each of us. Also, when cleaning the territory, certain safety rules should be observed.
Dispose of waste in designated areas. If waste burning is unavoidable, it is important to recall and reiterate the rules for maintaining order well in advance.
To avoid disaster, the following recommendations must be followed:
– do not burn accumulated waste in windy weather. Do not leave an open fire unattended. If you decide to clean up by making a fire, remember that this can only be done in calm weather, at a safe distance from buildings, trees, haystacks, etc. And you must always have a sufficient supply of extinguishing agents – this can be water, sand, fire extinguishers;
– thoroughly extinguish cigarette butts and matches before discarding them;
– if you notice a fire, do not pass by. You can extinguish grass that is starting to burn on your own. When extinguishing with improvised means, you can beat down the flames from the edge of the fire with a bundle of twigs or branches of deciduous trees, or cover the edge of the fire with sand;
– after extinguishing the fire, do not leave until you are sure that the fire will not reignite.
