Competition of sketch designs for a memorial sign to Lev Sapega
REGULATION
At the end of his life, Lev Sapieha was the Grand Hetman of Lithuania for eight years, proving himself a talented military leader. During the war with Sweden, the hetman and his son Jan sacrificed most of their property to fight the enemy.
Holding the highest positions in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania for forty years, Lev Sapieha determined the policy of the Grand Duchy. He was a consistent supporter of a strong state governed by laws. With Sapieha's participation, the Tribunal of the Grand Duchy was created – the main appellate court, independent of Poland and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, whose decisions had the force of Sejm resolutions.
Lev Sapieha also enjoyed a deserved reputation as a generous patron, a guardian of artists and writers. He owned numerous estates and settlements, and obtained privileges from the Grand Duke for Magdeburg law and fairs for the residents of his possessions.
In 1630, Sapieha, who at that time held the positions of Voivode of Vilnius and Grand Hetman, acquired the estates of Senno and Beshenkovichi. On July 14, 1632, he transferred them to his younger son Kazimir Lev. Under the new owner, Beshenkovichi turned into a settlement and became the center of a volost. On October 4, 1634, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania Władysław IV signed a privilege for Magdeburg law and permission to hold two fairs a year and one market day a week in Beshenkovichi.
Currently, monuments to thisto a prominent statesman and patron of the arts have been erected in Slonim and Lepel.
2. The organizer and coordinator of the competition is the Beshenkovichi District Executive Committee.
3. Participants of the competition may be individuals and legal entities, an individual or a creative team (sculptors, architects) with relevant professional education.
4. Information on the competition will be posted on the official website of the Beshenkovichi District Executive Committee and in the media no later than January 19, 2024.
5. To participate, you must submit by February 19, 2024:
an application in the prescribed form (attached);
competition materials to the Beshenkovichi District Executive Committee at: 13, Chuklaya St., urban-type settlement Beshenkovichi, Vitebsk Region, 211361.

In case of violation of the competition terms or the deadline for submitting competition materials, the draft design of the memorial sign (hereinafter referred to as the draft design) will not be considered.
6. Competition materials must include: a soft-material sketch on a 1:5 scale, a visualization of the architectural and plastic solution of the memorial sign with its placement at the installation site, a brief explanatory note justifying the proposed draft design, indicating the estimated cost of manufacturing the memorial sign (including the cost of manufacturing and installation of the memorial sign).
7. The compositional and plastic execution of the memorial sign must be in keeping with the best traditions of classical and national monumental art. Contestantsit is proposed to create a memorial sign (figurative composition) to Lev Sapega, at least 3 meters high, which may include a bust or a relief image of this historical figure. The installation site is the city park of Beshenkovichi. Visual perception from different sides. The material of the pedestal is granite, the memorial sign is bronze. On the pedestal is a bronze plaque in Belarusian.
8. In order to preserve the anonymity of the authors, the competition materials are provided under a four-digit number, which is indicated on all competition materials in the upper left corner, as well as on the participant's envelope.
An information sheet is enclosed in the sealed envelope of the competition participant, which contains the surname, first name, patronymic (if any), as well as the address and contact phone number of the participant or group of participants.
9. Competition works are reviewed by a jury, the composition of which is approved by the Deputy Chairman of the Beshenkovichi District Executive Committee, at a closed meeting, no later than 10 working days from the end of the submission period for competition materials. Jury members do not participate in the competition and do not provide consultations on competition projects.
10. The decision is made by the jury in the presence of at least half of its members by open voting, by a majority of votes of those present. In case of an equal number of votes "for" and "against", the vote of the jury chairman is decisive. The jury's decision is formalized by a protocol, which is signed by all jury members and approved by the chairman.
11. Criteria for evaluating sketch projects of the memorial sign:
compliance with the competition conditions set out in paragraphs 6, 7 of this Regulation;

1. The design competition (hereinafter referred to as the competition) is held with the aim of finding the most expressive figurative solution for a memorial sign to Lev Sapega.
Lev Sapega was born in the ancestral castle near the village of Ostrovno (currently an agro-town in the Beshenkovichi district) into the family of Ivan Ivanovich Sapega, староста of Drogichin and подстароста of Orsha, and Bogdana Konstantinovna Sapega.
