Gagarin Cup in Vitebsk. The main trophy of the Kontinental Hockey League was presented at the Ice Palace
Today, the main trophy of the Kontinental Hockey League – the Gagarin Cup – was put on public display at the Vitebsk Ice Palace. Representatives of the regional authorities, young and adult athletes, as well as numerous sports enthusiasts gathered for its presentation.
The Gagarin Cup was brought to our city by Vladislav Yeremenko, a defenseman for Magnitogorsk Metallurg. For your information, the Vitebsk hockey prodigy, as part of the Ural team, became the owner of the KHL's main trophy in the concluded season. Moreover, Yeremenko became the first Vitebsk resident to achieve such success.
The presentation of the Gagarin Cup was attended by the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Subbotin, who thanked the hockey player for the celebration gifted to Vitebsk hockey fans.
- The most significant award of the Kontinental Hockey League is in Vitebsk. This is truly a celebration for hockey fans. Without any grand words, you have already inscribed your name and the names of your loved ones in golden letters in the annals of the city and the region. We are proud of you.
The Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Vyacheslav Durnov, also noted the significance of this event for sports enthusiasts and the high quality of work of the region's sports schools:
- This is what athletes play for – for their fans. At such events, hockey players demonstrate the results of their hard work. I hope we will continue this tradition. And the main KHL trophy will come to Vitebsk again. It is gratifying that graduates of Vitebsk region sports schools play for top KHL clubs. This speaks to the strong foundation of Belarusian hockey. And if sports schools operate effectively, the national team will also perform well.
Vladislav Yeremenko thanked everyone present at this celebration:
- Incredible feelings. I am very glad that so many people came. It is a pleasure to share the joy of winning the trophy with Vitebsk sports enthusiasts. I took my first steps on the ice here, I spent a lot of time here. I always try to visit my hometown. I am glad to see how the city and Vitebsk hockey are developing. Two Saley Cups are worth a lot.
At the event, everyone had the opportunity to take photos with the Gagarin Cup and get autographs from its owner. And hockey fans eagerly took advantage of this opportunity – queues formed for the trophy and autographs.
— Thank you to Vlad Yeryomenko and everyone who organized this celebration, — fan Alexander told "VV". — I came with my school-aged son, who also plays hockey. We took a photo with the Gagarin Cup and talked with Vlad. I showed my son, using Vladislav as an example, what he should strive for. And I told him: look, if you train hard, you can also win such a cup.
Recall that the KHL is unofficially considered the strongest hockey league in Europe and the second strongest in the world. This season, two Belarusian hockey players became the owners of the trophy, both from the Vitebsk region. Yesterday, a similar event took place in Novopolotsk. The Gagarin Cup was brought to the oil city by Danila Palivko, a defenseman for Metallurg.
