Lukashenko Cancels Increase in Housing and Communal Services Tariffs for the Public from January 1

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has decided to postpone the increase in tariffs for the public in the housing and communal services sector from January 1 to March 1 of this year. This is to prevent a significant increase in the financial burden of utility payments for citizens. This was reported to BELTA by the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The government made a corresponding proposal to the head of state, and the President supported it.

The increase in utility tariffs was provided for by Decree No. 33 of January 23, 2026. The current decision of the President postpones this planned change to a later date.

As a result of the prevailing weather conditions and consistently low outdoor temperatures in January of this year, approximately 45% more thermal and electrical energy, as well as natural gas, were consumed for heating compared to December 2025. This is expected to lead to an increase in public payments for heating.

The decision was made based on approaches to prevent additional burdens for citizens when paying for housing and communal services.
