President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed laws on the ratification of two international treaties with Russia on October 14. BelTA was informed about this by the press service of the head of state.

One of them is a protocol on amendments to the treaty between Belarus and Russia on equal rights of citizens dated December 25, 1998. Its implementation will allow Belarusian and Russian citizens permanently residing in the territory of the other state to participate in local elections (to elect and be elected to local self-government bodies) on a reciprocal basis.

The other document is an agreement between Belarus and Russia on measures for the mutual protection of citizens from unfounded prosecution by foreign states and international justice bodies. Its subject is the protection of citizens, including current or former officials, from unfounded prosecution by third parties, taking into account the trend towards the politicization of international judicial bodies and other international criminal justice mechanisms.
