Lukashenko Arrives in the Capital of Tajikistan for CIS Summit

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has arrived in Dushanbe. The Belarusian leader will participate in the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in the capital of Tajikistan, which will be held on October 10, according to a BELTA correspondent.

Approximately two dozen issues will be submitted for the consideration of the Commonwealth Heads of State. In anticipation of the organization's 35th anniversary next year, a number of initiatives are planned to strengthen its international positioning, in particular, regarding the creation of the "CIS Plus" format and granting the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation observer status within the CIS.

Earlier, Alexander Lukashenko stated that Belarus welcomes the initiative to create the "CIS Plus" format as a new platform for multilateral cooperation of the Commonwealth with international partners. The Belarusian leader made a corresponding statement on September 30 at a meeting in Minsk with heads of government delegations participating in the Eurasian Economic Commission meeting and the CIS Council of Heads of Government.

The agenda of the CIS Council of Heads of State meeting in Dushanbe also includes topics of energy security, cooperation in the military sphere, border security, and combating transnational crime.

Furthermore, on October 9, Dushanbe is scheduled to host another meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Key issues for strengthening multilateral interaction within the Commonwealth are included in the agenda of the meeting.
