In connection with the start of the swimming season, the influx of vacationers to reservoirs has sharply increased, and accordingly, the number has increased
accidents. The vast majority of them are related to violations of water safety rules.The main causes of drowning in reservoirs remain:
swimming while intoxicated;
leaving young children unattended;
swimming in prohibited areas;
non-compliance with personal safety measures.
Swimming while intoxicated
The main reasons for unsuccessful, and sometimes tragic, recreation include carelessness of citizens and violation of water safety rules. In most cases, emergencies occur during the consumption of alcoholic beverages, when swimming while intoxicated, or swimming in prohibited areas where there are no rescue stations. Alcohol consumption and recreation near water often lead to fatalities. Last year, the opening of the swimming season was not successful for everyone:
Important! An intoxicated person is unable to adequately assess the situation and may commit acts that they would never commit while sober.
Prohibited! Swimming in reservoirs while under the influence of alcohol. Alcohol further dilates blood vessels, and after immersion in cold water, a sharp spasm occurs. In an open water environment, this can be fatal.
Boating
Many citizens own various watercraft (boats, jet skis, motorboats, etc.), while others use rented ones. In any case, water recreation enthusiasts must remember that operating any watercraft requires strict adherence to safety rules during their use, the violation of which can lead to irreparable consequences:
Important! All persons on board a watercraft must wear life jackets.
It is prohibited:
to exceed the established number of people on board;
operating watercraft while intoxicated;
operating watercraft beyond the areas designated by buoys for swimming;
jumping into the water from a boat;
sitting on the sides, moving from place to place, and transferring to other boats, vessels;
going out on the water on watercraft not specifically designed for this purpose;
approaching too closely to watercraft where whirlpools, waves, and currents may form: a swimmer may be pulled under them.
Attempts to swim across water bodies
Water safety is, first and foremost, a necessity. People (even those who swim well) venture into deep water and cannot return to shore. Some organize obstacle swimming competitions. However, not everyone can accurately assess their strength:
It is prohibited! To swim beyond the boundary markers and to move away from the shore at significant distances while swimming, as well as to swim across a water body without an urgent need (rescuing people).
Swimming and diving in unfamiliar, unequipped areas
Many vacationers enjoy diving into water from heights. Jumping into water in unknown places is life-threatening. Here, one can hit their head on the bottom, break cervical vertebrae, lose consciousness, and die. Diving into water from bridges, rafts, piers, dams, and other structures is no less dangerous. There may be piles, rocks, etc. underwater.
Important! Swim only at equipped beaches in areas marked by buoys or floats.
Prohibited! Jumping or diving in unknown places: from bridges, docks, piers, etc.
Inflatable mattresses, inner tubes, etc.
When relaxing by the water, people often use various inflatable items. Swimming on them is dangerous, and for a person who cannot swim, it often ends tragically. Inflatable chambers and mattresses
Teenagers unsupervised near water
We would like to draw special attention to the safety of teenagers near water bodies. They sometimes behave too carelessly, overconfidently, run and play near the water, feeling no danger. Parents must understand that no matter how old the child is, whether a preschooler or a student, they should not be near water without adult supervision. And it is the parents who are obliged to talk to their children about everything that can happen, warn them about the dangers, and explain the consequences.
Important! Rules for parents:
do not let your child go to the beach alone;
do not lose sight of them when they are swimming (do not rely on the fact that the child is already grown up and swims well);
choose an equipped beach, as lifeguards are on duty there.
Child fatalities in bodies of water
We emphasize once again that the most important thing parents should remember is that children should not be near water unsupervised. This is a rule that all adults must strictly follow. Unfortunately, young children left unsupervised by adults often drown in water.
Not only large bodies of water, but also decorative ponds and even containers with water pose a danger, especially to a small child. Only parents who are aware of the potential dangers and take them seriously, however rare and improbable they may seem, can protect their child from harm. When you are with children near water, you cannot lose vigilance for a minute.
Important! Do not lose sight of children playing near water bodies. It is best if a child plays in the water with adults – this is the only way to be completely sure of their safety. If you are not participating in the games, make sure the child remains within your sight.
Dear parents! Summer is a wonderful time for recreation, positive emotions, and vivid impressions. However, it is also the most dangerous period for children. Therefore, do everything you can to protect your child from trouble. Try to make your leisure time as safe as possible, stay close to your children, and take care of them.
