On Methods of Combating Goldenrod

In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Belarus dated 14.06.2003 No. 205-Z "On the Plant World" (hereinafter referred to as the Law):

land users in the field of plant world management are obliged to carry out, in cases and in the manner established by law, work on regulating the spread and number of plants, the list of which is determined in accordance with part three of Article 26 of the Law (paragraph ten of part one of Article 9 of the Law);

the regulation of the spread and number of plants must be carried out by methods that ensure the prevention of harm to other objects of the plant world and the preservation of their habitat (part two of Article 26 of the Law).

In accordance with sub-paragraph 4.3 of paragraph 4 of the Regulation "On the procedure for carrying out measures to regulate the spread and number of plant species whose spread and number are subject to regulation", approved by Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus dated 07.12.2016 N 1002, depending on the area occupied by plants, the density of their growth, the degree of threat to the life and health of citizens, the environment, and the number of their growth sites, the following methods of regulating the spread and number of plant species (excluding trees and shrubs) are distinguished: manual, mechanical, and chemical.

According to sub-paragraph 6.9.17 of paragraph 6 of the technical code of established practice TKP 17.05-03-2020 (33140) "Environmental protection and nature management. Plant world. Requirements for carrying out work to limit the spread and number of invasive plants (Sosnowsky's hogweed, Canadian goldenrod, echinocystis lobata, and other invasive plants) by various methods", approved and put into effect by Resolution of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus dated 16.07.2020 No. 5-T 17, the optimal time for applying herbicides to regulate the spread and number of Canadian goldenrod is late spring – early summer when plants are up to 30 cm tall. When treating tall plants, it is necessary to mow them and then apply the preparations.

The chemical method of combating goldenrod can be used in late spring-early summer, and at other times only after it has been mowed (undercut). This technology will prevent and minimize the death of bees and other entomofauna in the summer-autumn period.
