About Feeding Birds in Winter
To survive the cold winter, birds need energy, which they get from food. However, when helping birds, it is important not to harm them.
Do not feed birds bread (especially dark bread), fried seeds, millet, salted or smoked products.
Bird feeders should be placed where they can be regularly refilled and cleaned.
Birds should be fed regularly at the same time so that they get used to it. It is better to fill feeders with a variety of food.
What you can feed birds with:
- grains: millet, oats, wheat, sunflower, pumpkin, and watermelon seeds, as well as nuts;
- berries and fruits: rowan, rosehip, hawthorn, apples, pears, and even bananas (without peel);
- seeds and nuts: pine nuts, walnuts, peanuts, flax seeds, and hemp seeds;
- lard: use unsalted lard;
- protein products: boiled egg, low-fat cottage cheese, and meat;
- vegetables: carrots, cabbage, boiled potatoes;
- conifer buds, young shoots of trees and shrubs;
- unroasted and unsalted oilseeds.
