On Holding a Coordination Meeting on Combating Crime and Corruption
On July 13, 2023, a meeting of the district coordination council on combating crime and corruption was held under the chairmanship of the Prosecutor of Beshenkovichi District, S.A. Urbanovich.
The agenda included the state of crime in the region, the effectiveness of the activities of prevention entities aimed at combating offenses and crimes.
Overall, in 2023, the number of registered crimes in the district showed a slight decrease from 76 to 75. At the same time, the overall crime rate per 10,000 population is 53.2, which is 13.3 higher than the regional average.
This time, close attention at the meeting was paid to issues of recidivism and the work of prevention entities with previously convicted persons, who committed 20 crimes this year, or 36.4% of the total number.
As noted by the chairman of the coordination meeting, S.A. Urbanovich, recidivism is one of the most dangerous types of criminal acts. The commission of a new crime by a person after serving a sentence for a previous one may indicate their unwillingness to reform and lead a normal life in society, necessitating the adoption of all possible measures by interested services towards such a person to prevent the commission of unlawful acts against our citizens.
The results of the prosecutor's supervisory measures and the increase in the number of recidivist crimes committed in the district indicate insufficient effectiveness of the work of prevention entities with previously convicted persons, as well as significant shortcomings and miscalculations in this area of activity. A lack of proper interaction between interested services is also noted.
Based on the results of the meeting, a number of organizational decisions were made aimed at preventing recidivist crimes and reducing the overall crime rate in the region, and specific instructions were given to prevention entities regarding their areas of activity.
