On Domestic Violence

Family violence is currently one of the most significant reasons that deprive the family, as a unit of society, of stability and security. The reasons for committing this category of crimes can vary, but alcohol usually accompanies their commission.

For example, in November 2019, a 29-year-old resident of Beshenkovichi district, S., was brought to criminal responsibility for intentionally inflicting minor bodily harm. During a joint drinking session, he punched his brother in the face, causing an open fracture of the nasal bones, which is classified as minor bodily harm.

To prevent such crimes in the district, the prosecutor's office initiated the consideration of this criminal case in an on-site court session, which took place at the Beshenkovichi District Department of Internal Affairs with the invitation of citizens prone to domestic violence. The accused himself pleaded guilty, stating that he hit his brother due to an argument between them, the reason for which he could not name, as he did not remember due to severe alcoholic intoxication. He repented of his actions. According to his characteristics, S. had previously been repeatedly brought to administrative responsibility and needs treatment for alcohol addiction.

The court agreed with the opinion of the state prosecutor and found S. guilty of the aforementioned crime, sentencing him to community service. The verdict has entered into force.
