A Trip Worth Several Thousand Rubles

The Prosecutor's Office of Beshenkovichi District supported the state prosecution in a criminal case against a 22-year-old resident of Vitebsk, who was visiting relatives in Beshenkovichi District.
During the preliminary and judicial investigation of this criminal case, it was established that the accused, between 11:00 PM on February 27, 2020, and 02:00 AM on February 28, 2020, while intoxicated and intending to unlawfully seize and drive a vehicle without intent to steal it, took a car from the yard of a house in one of the settlements of Beshenkovichi District. Using the key left in the ignition, he started the engine and drove to a friend in a neighboring settlement of Beshenkovichi District, where he was subsequently apprehended by officers of the State Automobile Inspectorate of Beshenkovichi District Department of Internal Affairs.
The accused did not possess driving skills and, upon exiting the yard where the car was parked, damaged it, thereby causing material harm to the victim (related to car repairs).
Considering the position of the state prosecution, the court found the accused guilty of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 214 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus and sentenced him to a fine of 150 basic units, totaling 4,050 rubles.
Additionally, the court ordered the accused to pay the victim 863 rubles 50 kopecks in compensation for moral and material damages, and a state duty of 109 rubles 17 kopecks.
The verdict of the Beshenkovichi District Court has entered into force.
