Fire hazard period: be careful

Despite the still unmelted snow cover, rescuers are already preparing for the upcoming fire hazard period, as every private property owner will try to tidy up their household plot. And despite the obvious danger of burning dry vegetation at the root, there are still people who tidy up in such an unsafe manner.

Burning garbage on a household plot or simply near buildings can easily cause a fire and cause damage, or even completely destroy buildings or nearby parked vehicles.

It is difficult to stop a raging flame, and not only property can suffer, but also the arsonist themselves or people who happen to be at the scene of the fire. EMERCOM employees are aware of cases where, before the eyes of the perpetrators, the fire spread to residential buildings and sheds.

To avoid trouble, observe elementary safety rules:

  • Do not burn grass. Besides being harmful to plants and animals, fire can also be dangerous to people.
  • Do not leave fires unattended. Thoroughly extinguish cigarette butts and matches before discarding them.
  • If you notice a fire, do not pass by. You can extinguish the starting grass yourself. When extinguishing with improvised means, you can beat down the flames from the edge of the fire with a bundle of twigs or branches of deciduous trees, or cover the edge of the fire with sand.
  • After extinguishing the fire, do not leave until you are sure that the fire will not reignite.
  • If you realize that you cannot extinguish the flame yourself, immediately report the incident by calling 101 and try to leave the scene of the fire as quickly as possible.

Burning garbage on your property is allowed, but safety rules must be observed. This should only be done in calm weather. It is best to build fires away from buildings, forests, or haystacks. If there is nothing of the above nearby,

if you are ready to monitor the fire and have a fire extinguisher or a bucket of water at hand, then you are doing everything right.
