Preventing Livestock Mortality at Agro-Industrial Complex Enterprises: A Coordination Meeting Held at Beshenkovichi District Executive Committee with the Participation of Beshenkovichi District Prosecutor Sergey Urbanovich

A district coordination meeting on combating crime and corruption was held at the Beshenkovichi District Executive Committee, chaired by Beshenkovichi District Prosecutor Sergey Urbanovich. The meeting assessed the effectiveness of agro-industrial complex organizations in preserving cattle, the role of the veterinary service and the agriculture and food department of the Beshenkovichi District Executive Committee in maintaining order, as well as the work of law enforcement agencies in identifying crimes in the agricultural sector.
The event was attended by members of the coordination meeting, Chairperson of the Beshenkovichi District Executive Committee Galina Unukovich, officials from the agriculture and food department of the district executive committee, the Beshenkovichi District Department of Internal Affairs, and heads of agricultural organizations.
The meeting noted that by the end of 2024, compared to 2023, there was an increase in unproductive livestock losses at agro-industrial complex enterprises.
Among the main reasons cited were violations of cattle keeping and feeding technologies, insufficient executive discipline of employees and officials of agro-industrial complex organizations, and improper organization of treatment for both adult cattle and their young by veterinary service specialists.
Instances of concealment of cattle mortality were pointed out, for which the Beshenkovichi District Prosecutor's Office initiated 2 criminal cases in 2024.
The district prosecutor's office also noted instances where heads of agricultural enterprises failed to take sufficient measures to recover damages from responsible persons for livestock mortality, which amounted to no more than 20% of the total sum of such damages.
Following the coordination meeting, a decision was made to stabilize the current situation. Specific tasks were set and deadlines for their execution were defined for the agriculture and food department of the district executive committee, the State Public Health Institution "Beshenkovichi District Veterinary Station" jointly with the veterinary service of farms, heads and specialists of the zoological service of agricultural organizations in the district, and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes of the Internal Affairs Department of the district executive committee.
