Prosecutor's Office of Beshenkovichi District Sent to Court a Criminal Case on a Road Traffic Accident Committed While Intoxicated, Resulting in Grievous Bodily Harm and Deliberate Abandonment of the Victim in Danger

The Prosecutor's Office of Beshenkovichi District sent to court a criminal case regarding a violation of traffic rules by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated, which negligently caused grievous bodily harm and abandonment in danger, committed by a person who negligently put the victim in a life-threatening condition.
According to the case materials, resident of Chashniki, Vitebsk region, U., in December 2023, in the evening, while driving a «VOLKSWAGENGOLF» car while intoxicated, which prevented him from correctly assessing the road situation and ensuring constant control over traffic safety, while driving along the M-3 Vitebsk-Minsk highway in the agro-town of Svecha, Beshenkovichi District, collided with cyclist P., who was moving in the same direction along the roadside.
As a result of the road traffic accident, the victim sustained grievous bodily harm, but, knowing this, the accused fled the scene, leaving P. in danger.
After reviewing the criminal case materials, the district prosecutor's office concluded that the charges were justified and the circumstances of the crimes were objectively investigated. They agreed with the qualification of U.'s actions under Part 4 of Article 317, Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.
The criminal case was handled by the Beshenkovichi District Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus.
The accused faces a penalty of up to eight years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to driving vehicles for the same period.
