Prosecutor's Office of Beshenkovichi District: Detention Sanctioned in Case of Violence Against a Police Officer and a Person Performing Public Duty to Suppress an Offense

The Prosecutor of Beshenkovichi District sanctioned the application of a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention against a 57-year-old local resident P. in a criminal case concerning the use of violence against an internal affairs officer, as well as a person performing public duty to suppress offenses.

The Prosecutor of Beshenkovichi District sanctioned the application of a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention against a 57-year-old local resident P. in a criminal case concerning the use of violence against an internal affairs officer, as well as a person performing public duty to suppress offenses.

According to the case materials, in August of this year, P. was stopped by police officer Sh. on a street in the urban settlement of Beshenkovichi, Vitebsk region, for committing an offense. In order to obstruct Sh.'s lawful activities, P. struck him with a hard blunt object on various parts of his body, causing Sh. bodily injuries. These unlawful actions of P. were discovered and suppressed at that time by internal affairs officer K., who was in civilian clothes, and whom the suspect resisted during apprehension, causing bodily injuries.

A criminal case has been initiated against P. under Article 364 and Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, which is currently being processed by the Beshenkovichi District Department of the Investigative Committee.

The application of the aforementioned pre-trial restraint is due to the gravity of the offense and the identity of the defendant in the criminal case.
