Beshenkovichi District Prosecutor's Office Demands Bringing Children's Playgrounds into Proper Condition

     The Beshenkovichi District Prosecutor's Office inspected the enforcement of legislation aimed at preventing child injuries in anticipation of the summer holidays.

     In accordance with Articles 5, 8, 25 of the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On the Rights of the Child" dated 19.11.1993 No. 2570-XII, every child has the right to health protection and promotion, living conditions necessary for full physical development, as well as properly organized recreation, for which necessary facilities are equipped.

     One of the most important conditions for the normal development of children is the availability of children's playgrounds, which are designed for safe and healthy recreation for children, their physical sports education, and development in everyday life.

     At the same time, the presence of faulty equipment on children's playgrounds and the failure to carry out timely technical maintenance are unacceptable, as this contributes to an increase in child injuries and can lead to a child's death.

     However, during the inspection of children's playgrounds in the district, a number of the aforementioned violations were identified.

     In particular, one of the children's playgrounds in the urban settlement of Beshenkovichi, as well as the adjacent territory, was littered with household waste and fragments of broken fence pickets with nails sticking out. Street sports complexes, a gazebo, swings, a sandbox, and benches needed repair and painting. The suspended swings lacked parts of their backs, and the swings themselves were secured with broken concrete blocks with sharp edges. The play complex had damaged paintwork and cracks, and broken glass was found in the sandbox.

     Following the supervisory measures, the Beshenkovichi District Prosecutor's Office issued a directive to the Chairman of the District Executive Committee, demanding immediate action to eliminate the identified violations and prevent their recurrence.
