Prosecutor's Office of Beshenkovichi District: Detention Sanctioned in Case of Violence Against Beshenkovichi District Executive Committee Internal Affairs Officer and Death Threats

The Prosecutor of Beshenkovichi District sanctioned the application of a pre-trial detention measure against a 37-year-old local resident, who is charged with two crimes: using violence against an officer of the district Internal Affairs Department to obstruct his lawful activities, and making death threats, if there were grounds to fear their execution.

According to case materials, the previously convicted suspect was detained by police officers at the end of February this year for committing an administrative offense while intoxicated. While being transported to the district Internal Affairs Department for investigation, the detainee, with the aim of obstructing the lawful activities of the district police inspector, inflicted at least one traumatic impact on him, causing physical pain and battery.

Also, in early March this year, the suspect, while intoxicated at night on one of the streets of Beshenkovichi, during a conflict with three local residents, swung an axe at them and made death threats, which the victims perceived as real and feared their execution.

Based on these facts, the Beshenkovichi District Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus initiated two criminal cases – under Article 186 and Article 364 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. Investigative actions have been organized to establish all circumstances of the crimes.

The district prosecutor sanctioned the application of a pre-trial detention measure, taking into account information about the suspect's identity, the nature, and the public danger of the committed acts.
