In 2008, no redenomination of the Belarusian ruble is planned

December 27, Minsk /BelTA correspondent/. Belarus does not plan to carry out a denomination of the Belarusian ruble in 2008. This was reported to BelTA by the information department of the National Bank in connection with numerous appeals from citizens to the country's main banking institution and banks. The National Bank noted that the Belarusian ruble will remain stable. In accordance with the Main Directions of Monetary Policy of the Republic of Belarus for 2008, a change in the official exchange rate of the Belarusian ruble against the US dollar within plus/minus 2.5% is envisaged for January 1, 2009. The National Bank intends to continue pursuing a policy of strengthening the national currency. Both in the current and subsequent years, attractive conditions will be created for storing savings in Belarusian rubles in deposits and increasing the availability of bank credit resources for the population and economic entities. The level of interest rates on deposits in the national currency will continue to exceed both inflation rates and the yield on savings in foreign currency.-0-
