Today is World Wetlands Day.
On February 2, 1971, in Ramsar (Iran), on the shore of the Caspian Sea, the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, Especially as Waterfowl Habitat, was signed.The theme for World Wetlands Day 2024 is “Wetlands and Human Wellbeing”. This slogan emphasizes how closely all aspects of our wellbeing are linked to the health of these unique ecosystems, and calls on us to value and protect our wetlands.
Our district has a significant wetland site – the Serzhitsky Moss bog.
By Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus of December 30, 2015 No. 1111 “On Certain Issues in the Field of Conservation and Rational (Sustainable) Use of Peatlands” and the approved Scheme for the Distribution of Peatlands by Use Directions for the Period up to 2030, the Serzhitsky Moss bog is classified as a bog (part of a bog) subject to special and (or) special protection.
The V.F. Kuprevich Institute of Experimental Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has carried out research work on the development of a management plan for the “Serzhitsky Moss” bog, including measures aimed at the conservation, restoration ofA press conference on the topic "Ecology of Belarus. Conservation and rational use of wetlands" was held with the participation of Lyudmila Bartoshevich, Deputy Head of the Department of Biological and Landscape Diversity of the Main Department for Waste Management Regulation, Biological and Landscape Diversity of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.
