Shved: I urge citizens not to succumb to provocations, not to participate in illegal actions
I call on citizens not to succumb to provocations, not to participate in illegal actions. This statement was made today to journalists by Prosecutor General of Belarus Andrei Shved, Belta correspondent reports.
"Today is a very important process in the history of our country. A referendum is taking place, at which our citizens must decide on amendments and additions to the Basic Law. The situation at all polling stations is completely calm and fully controlled by law enforcement and other state bodies. At the same time, information with calls to disrupt the referendum, destroy ballots, and participate in all sorts of illegal actions, rallies, and pickets has begun to spread in certain destructive Telegram channels," said Andrei Shved.
The Prosecutor General reminded that in accordance with the law, these actions are subject to administrative, and in certain cases, criminal liability. According to him, responsibility for such actions will inevitably follow. The law is the same for everyone.
"Any facts of law violations, threats against members of the election commission, officials, law enforcement and state bodies will receive the most principled legal assessment. We are very carefully monitoring every report. And those who organize all this, and those who spread it, will sooner or later be identified and held accountable. We have all the forces and means for this, we have the experience that we have gained in recent years. Therefore, I urge citizens not to succumb to any provocations, not to participate in illegal actions, not to take into account deliberately false information, to rely on official sources of information and to fulfill their civic duty - to come to the polling station," Andrei Shved emphasized.
