Systematically Beat Cohabitant. Beshenkovichi District Prosecutor Initiated Criminal Case.

The Beshenkovichi District Prosecutor initiated a criminal case against a 38-year-old local resident on charges of systematically inflicting beatings on his cohabitant.

This decision was made after reviewing the materials of the inspection conducted by the territorial internal affairs department.

According to the case materials, the suspect, while intoxicated, systematically beat his cohabitant at their place of residence during conflicts throughout 2025, causing her bodily harm, physical pain, and bruises. At least three such incidents have been established.

Due to her dependence on her cohabitant, the woman refused to file a complaint.

As explained by District Prosecutor S.A. Urbanovich, Part 5 of Article 26 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Belarus provides the prosecutor with the right to initiate criminal cases of private and private-public prosecution without a statement from the victim, if they affect significant interests of the state and society or are committed against a person who is in official or other dependence on the accused, or for other reasons is unable to independently protect their rights and legitimate interests.

During the inspection, it was established that in all cases of the considered crime, the conflicts were preceded by the suspect's abuse of alcoholic beverages, which is a negative factor in domestic relations. The unlawful actions are directed against human life and health, and therefore affect significant interests of the state and society.

The District Prosecutor's Office considered its intervention justified in this case and decided to initiate a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 154 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.

To organize the preliminary investigation, the criminal case has been sent to the Beshenkovichi District Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus.
