"Service Forges Character and Changes One's Outlook on Life": The Story of Private Artem Artyukh

Private Artem Artyukh celebrated the Day of the Fatherland Defenders and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus in uniform for the second time. For him, February 23 is not just a date on the calendar, but a symbolThe basics of military affairs were mastered by Artem during his studies at Secondary School No. 2 in Beshenkovichi named after M. N. Tkachenko, under the careful guidance of an experienced mentor, the head of military-patriotic education, Alexander Podolsky. "Alexander Sergeevich also taught us physical education classes," recalls the soldier. "I remember shooting from an air rifle. That's when I decided that I would definitely go to the army to learn military affairs and how to shoot a real weapon."

After graduating from school, Artem entered the Vitebsk State Agrarian and Technical College for the specialty "Public Catering," received the profession of cook and confectioner, and in October 2024 was called up by the military commissariat of Beshenkovichi and Shumilino districts for active military service in the internal troops. His acquired profession came in handy during his military service. For the first nine months, he served as a cook in military unit 5524 in Vitebsk, and later was transferred to military unit 5530, whose servicemen perform tasks for maintaining public order and ensuring public safety in Polotsk and Novopolotsk.

There is not much time left until the order is issued; Artem is expected home by Victory Day. "Serving in the army is not difficult if you observe discipline. Every day is very busy, service is easy, the commanders are good, attentive, understanding, they help and advise in everything. Everything comes easily, especially when there is interest and a desire to learn and discover something new. I have gained knowledge in the military sphere, made new friends. In the army, I have become more responsible towards life, set new goals for myself, and made plans for the future. The acquired experience of communication in a male collective is also important. After active service, I would like to serve in the security unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs," says Artem, reflecting on his journey.

!When asked what he would advise young people who have doubts or fears about the army, he answered briefly: "You should go serve and not be afraid of anything. It won't hurt to test yourself in difficult army conditions. In the army, I have already changed many views on life and, one might say, I am only becoming stronger both morally and physically."
