Catfish Ban

The Vitebsk Regional Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora announces that a ban on catching common catfish is established in fishing grounds within the Vitebsk region from May 31, 2020, to July 1, 2020.

The catching of this type of fish by all fishing gear is prohibited, as is being in possession of this type of fish within 1 km of the shoreline of fishing grounds. Administrative liability for catching common catfish entails a fine ranging from 20 to 50 basic units, and for being in possession of this type of fish, from 5 to 30 basic units.

For each common catfish caught, the offender is obliged to compensate for the damage caused to the environment, calculated at three times the amount, specifically 12 basic units (306 rubles). And if the damage from illegal fishing amounts to 100 or more basic units, criminal liability may ensue.
