The 155th anniversary of the Holy Elijah Church was celebrated in Beshenkovichi
Beshenkovichi celebrated the 155th anniversary of the Holy Transfiguration Church.
For 155 years, the church has been raising prayers to the heavens. It is documented that the church in the name of the Holy Prophet Elijah was built in Beshenkovichi in 1870 through the efforts of Archpriest Joseph Nikonovich.
The establishment of the first shrine in this place is associated with the Polish King and Grand Duke of Lithuania Casimir IV, who, in memory of his wife's rescue from drowning on the day of remembrance of the Prophet Elijah, ordered the founding of six Orthodox churches in Belarus. One of them was built in 1447 in Beshenkovichi. The first mention of our district center is associated with this date.
It is symbolic that it is today that the start of the festive events dedicated to the Day of the Urban Settlement has been given.
Bishop Evsevy of Drutsk, vicar of the Vitebsk diocese, arrived to share the joy of the holiday and joint prayer in the temple with the residents of Beshenkovichi. He presided over the Divine Liturgy.
