In Beshenkovichi, a project to provide private households with free containers for separate waste collection is entering an active phase. It is being implemented by UP "Beshenkovichi Communal Services".
The improvement of the existing infrastructure and waste management system is being carried out within the framework of the subprogram "Municipal Waste Management and Secondary Material Resources" of the State Program "Comfortable Housing and a Favorable Environment for 2016-2020". In accordance with the legislation, two plastic containers are provided for use in individual residential buildings: a black one with a volume of 120 liters, and a yellow one with a volume of 240 liters.
This year, the district utility service purchased 1200 such containers at the expense of the Secondary Material Resources Operator. And another 120 containers of 1100 liters each for container sites. In addition, an advance payment of 121 thousand rubles was made for the purchase of a new garbage truck. Its delivery is expected in March next year. The total amount of project financing at this stage is 300 thousand rubles.
According to the schedule, by the end of the year, it is planned to provide containers for 600 households in Beshenkovichi. The plans include covering households in the district with separate waste collection. Containers are distributed free of charge indefinitely. However, it should be remembered that the containers remain the property of the UP Housing and Communal Services "Beshenkovichi Communalnik", and residents become only their responsible tenants under a safekeeping agreement. This means that the containers cannot be sold. In case of their disappearance, the utility company has the right to consider it theft and file a report with law enforcement agencies. Repair of a broken container will also be at the expense of the residents, so it is necessary to treat the entrusted property with care.
"The containers are hermetically sealed, which means that animals and birds will not scatter the waste," notes Olga Prigozhaya, the landfill master, about the advantages of the new containers. "The containers are aesthetically pleasing and compact, making it easy to find a place to install them on the household territory. We explain to the population how to properly sort waste into containers and what should not be put into them. The collection of black containers will be carried out according to the old schedule, and yellow ones - according to the new one."
Why are there two containers and what is each intended for? The yellow one is for secondary recyclable materials. This includes glass bottles, jars, broken glass containers, cardboard and paper packaging, newspapers, magazines, and other paper waste, PET bottles from water, milk, and beverages, containers for cosmetics, household, and automotive chemicals. The black container is for mixed waste. This includes food scraps, paper and cardboard contaminated with food, plastic bags – in general, anything that shows signs of food contamination, rigid plastic packaging, disposable tableware, old clothes, shoes, textiles, haberdashery, stationery, decorative cosmetics, diapers, and sanitary paper. It is advisable to dispose of waste in both containers using plastic bags.
It is strictly forbidden to dispose of batteries, construction waste, energy-saving lamps, hot ash, and flammable items, branches, leaves, and other organic waste of plant and animal origin into the containers.
At the same time, utility service workers request that the contents of the containers, especially for secondary recyclable materials, be loaded as compactly as possible: for example, do not scatter paper waste but stack it as densely as possible, and at least compress PET bottles as much as feasible. It is advisable to place the filled containers on the collection day according to the schedule near the gate, closer to the roadway, but in a way that does not obstruct the movement of vehicles and pedestrians, and at the same time allows collectors to empty them as quickly as possible.
It is important to understand that by separating waste, we preserve the future for the entire planet for many millennia, improve sanitary and hygienic and anti-epidemic living conditions, and prevent the harmful impact of waste on the environment and human health. The small effort of each person leads to a great collective effect.
To receive a container free of charge, the homeowner must come with a passport to the UKP ZhKH "Beshenkovichi Kommunalnik" and conclude an agreement for the gratuitous transfer of property, as well as conclude an agreement for the removal and disposal of municipal waste, if it has not been concluded before.
