As part of the criminal investigation into the genocide of the population of Belarus, the district prosecutor's office has examined the circumstances of the extermination of civilians in the village of Chanovichi by Nazi invaders, inspected the alleged burial site, and interrogated a victim.

The victim, a local resident of the aforementioned village, told District Prosecutor Andrey Starchenko that, according to her mother, in 1942-1943, her father was shot by German soldiers with the complicity of "policemen" for his connection with partisans. At the time of the shooting, the victim was about two years old. Along with her father, about 8 other civilians were shot, including two uncles on her father's side. The shootings took place at the beginning of the village, based on tips from "policemen" among the local residents. Before the execution, her father and other men were lined up. When the names were read out before the execution, her father's name was mispronounced. However, a "policeman" present at the execution pointed out that her father and his two brothers shared the same surname, so the German soldier, who had initially allowed him to leave the line, ordered her father to return. German soldiers carried out the executions. During the shooting, one of the young men was wounded but not killed. When the Germans moved away, he raised his head. But one of the German soldiers noticed this, and therefore, it was ordered to deliver another shot to the head. After the execution, the fascists forcibly relocated the victim, her mother, sister, and other civilians of the village, placing them in an area fenced with barbed wire ("they lived under the open sky"). In such conditions, civilians lived for about 2 months until their liberation by Soviet troops.

Subsequently, the assistant district prosecutor, Sergey Kiryanov, inspected the alleged site of the execution and burial of residents (precise coordinates of the location were recorded), and a corresponding incident scene inspection report was drawn up.
