Spring ice is dangerous!
Every year, thin ice becomes the cause of death not only for fishermen who imprudently risk going out to fish on unstable ice, but also for children walking near frozen bodies of water without parental supervision. To avoid an accident, it is necessary to observe the following rules of conduct on the ice.
Do not go out on unhardened ice; it is life-threatening. Ice 7-10 centimeters thick is considered more or less safe. It can be identified by its color – it is green or bluish-green; dirty and brownish-gray ice is usually unstable.
Checking the strength of the ice by kicking it is dangerous. For this, it is necessary to use a pole or an ice pick. If the ice breaks through after the first strike and water appears on it, you should immediately stop and move back along your tracks, taking the first steps without lifting your soles off the ice.
It is not recommended to go out on the ice during a snowstorm and in the dark.
Jumping and running on the ice, as well as gathering in large groups, is prohibited.
When moving on
When moving in groups on ice, maintain a distance of 5-6 meters from each other.
Avoid using frozen rivers and lakes to shorten your route. Additionally, be cautious of thin ice near river mouths and tributaries, as well as near springs, outflows, trees, bushes, and reeds.
Ice fishing enthusiasts are advised to carry a life jacket and a rope 15-20 meters long with a loop at one end and a weight of 400-500 grams at the other.
We advise parents to discuss the dangers of being on frozen bodies of water with their children.
Unstable ice can lead to tragedy. Do not rely on rescuers; take your life into your own hands!
