"Freebie" Hunting
Violation of hunting rules led K., a resident of Vitebsk, to the dock.
Ekaterina Kabachevskaya, Assistant Prosecutor of Beshenkovichi District, shared the details of the incident:
One day in January of this year, K. came to his mother's village in Beshenkovichi District. While fishing on a lake near the village, he noticed a severely limping roe deer moving across the lake. The next day, taking his hunting dog and a knife, he drove his mother's car to a forest near the lake, as he was almost certain that the roe deer could not have gone far. Upon arriving at the spot, he unleashed his dog, which found the roe deer 250 meters from the lake. K. quickly ran up to the defenseless animal and slit its throat. After butchering the roe deer and putting everything into his backpack, K. headed back to the car. However, about 300 meters before reaching his car, K. saw a man approaching and waving. From his equipment, he understood that the man was most likely an employee of the nature protection inspection. The offender immediately dropped his backpack and tried to hide in the forest, but was eventually apprehended by inspectors together with the arriving police officers.
As established during the investigation, K.'s illegal hunting caused significant environmental damage – to the tune of 2,940 rubles, which the court, at the prosecutor's suit, ordered the offender to pay to the state. In addition, by court verdict, K. was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months of restriction of liberty without referral to an open-type correctional institution, with deprivation of the right to engage in hunting-related activities for a period of 5 years.
