Belarus, Mongolia show interest in environmental cooperation

Belarus and Mongolia are interested in developing cooperation in environmental protection, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.

Belarusian Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Sergei Maslyak and Minister of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia Bat-Erdene Bat-Ulzii held negotiations as part of the state visit to Mongolia. The parties discussed cooperation between the environmental agencies of Belarus and Mongolia. Both ministers noted their interest in exchanging experience in such areas as green economy, maximizing waste recycling, preservation of landscape and biological diversity, exploration, mining, and others.

Sergei Maslyak thanked the Mongolian minister for hospitality and invited him to visit Belarus to further strengthen cooperation between the countries.
“During the talks, the two ministers also discussed scientific cooperation. Sergei Maslyak stated that earlier in the interests of Mongolia as part of the contract with the Belarusian National Foundation for Fundamental Research research activities were carried out on the topic “Humic preparations on the basis of peat, coal for green improvement of desert areas, environmental protection”. The aim of the work was to theoretically and experimentally substantiate the composition of humic preparations as natural compounds for green management of desert areas of Mongolia,” the ministry said.

The Belarusian minister handed over to his Mongolian colleague a report containing the theoretical results of the work, including a preliminary assortment of woody plants resistant to moisture deficit, soil salinity and other unfavorable soil and climatic conditions close to those of Mongolia. Sergei Maslyak suggested continuing the work through testing the developed assortment of salt- and drought-tolerant plants in specific natural-climatic conditions of the regions of Mongolia.
