Director of the Tourism Department of the Sports and Tourism Ministry Irina Voronovich told BelTA’s The Nation Speaks project about the state of things in the domestic tourism.
“Belarusians are discovering those places in the country that they have never considered visiting. Our regions are working to promote local attractions. We have launched pilot projects. Each region has chosen some distinguishing feature that can become its trademark and attract tourists,” said Irina Voronovich.
Belarusians are interested in visiting events that take place regularly - once or twice a year. “In 2023, for example, Brest Oblast held a folklore festival Motalskaya Prysmaki (Motal Treats). People already know this event and visit it over and over again. The Slavianski Bazaar festival is very popular too,” the expert explained.
The National Tourism Agency is developing itineraries that would include detours to restored tourist objects.
According to Irina Voronovich, road trips with family and friends along one’s own itineraries are becoming increasingly popular.
In the summer season, tent camping, kayaking, and cycling are in high demand. “Our climate is perfect for this. Our specialists are building campsites for the new season. The Travel. Experience. Get Inspired campaign attracts a lot of attention at the beginning of the summer season. This year it will be held for the third time. We are encouraged and motivated by the statistics that we see,” noted Irina Voronovich.
