Digital technologies make Belarusian power grid more reliable

The introduction of digital technologies in the power engineering industry improves the reliability and the quality of power supply. Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich made the statement as he was getting familiar with new projects during the information and communications technology expo TIBO, the Energy Ministry press service told BelTA.

The introduction of digital technologies for managing heating networks was one of the presented possibilities. These projects have been realized in Molodechno, Orsha and Novopolotsk. Solutions are being worked out for Pinsk, Baranovichi, and Minsk. Modern digital technologies allow reducing heat loss and improving the quality of repairs. In addition to economic benefits they offer additional opportunities for utility companies to improve the quality of service of their consumers.
The best practices in the sphere of digitization should be replicated, Viktor Karankevich noted. The main task is to create universal digital space in the power engineering industry. It is supposed to cover all the technological and manufacturing processes.

It is also as important to use digital technologies to train and improve qualifications of personnel. With this in mind the Vitebsk Oblast gas company Vitebskoblgaz presented a new digital equipment simulator designed to allow workers to hone their skills of maintenance of gas equipment inside residential buildings. There are plans to use the new product to train vocational school students and students of higher education institutions. In virtual space they will be able to brush up on theoretical knowledge concerning the replacement of gas equipment, timely detection and fixing of gas contamination, and perform other technological operations.

The experience of Vitebskoblgaz concerning full automation of the processes inherent in the maintenance of consumer equipment was also reviewed. Over 64,000 consumers enjoy services in the region in this manner every year. There are plans to roll out the new technologies onto the rest of the country in stages.
