The names of the first delegates of the Belarusian People’s Congress have been announced, BelTA has learned.
On 1 April Minsk hosted an extraordinary conference of the Belarusian Women’s Union to nominate delegates to the Belarusian People’s Congress. Discussions and nominations of delegates by civil society and local councils of deputies have been going on in all regions of the country since 12 March. Civil society structures and regional councils of deputies will have to make a final decision on their delegates on 1-10 April. The Belarusian Women’s Union is the first to choose its delegates.
“These are established, well-known women. Twenty-five of our delegates were awarded state awards of the Republic of Belarus, more than 40 are holders of diplomas of the Council of Ministers and the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, commendation letters of various ministries and government agencies,” reads the report of the committee of the extraordinary conference of the Belarusian Women’s Union on the nomination of delegates to the Belarusian People’s Congress. “Twenty-five women were laureates and winners of the Woman of the Year Award. The absolute majority of them have higher education. Most of them are between 40 and 50 years old.”
