Refugees after talks between Lukashenko, Merkel: ‘We hope our situation will be resolved soon'

Yesterday the atmosphere in the refugee camp near the checkpoint was not as positive as in the logistics center that accommodated about a thousand refugees but calm. Hundreds of people still remain here, BelTA has learned.

People are making fires and sleeping in tents. Children spend time playing impromptu games.

"As long as the weather allows, we will be here until the issue is resolved," said Mehmed, a Kurdish refugee from Iraq. “We still have hopes for the goodwill of the Polish side. We are waiting for them to allow us to transit to Germany. Many are starting to get sick, the situation is not so good. But we have been here for many days and after what we have been through we do not want to retreat. We want a stable and peaceful life in the EU."

The refugees enthusiastically welcomed the news about the talks between Lukashenko and Merkel.

"We hope that our situation will be resolved soon," one of them said.
