Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Sergei Rachkov took part in a webinar of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to discuss parliamentary solidarity for refugee inclusion in education on 13 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of parliament.
Issues related to training of refugees are regulated by education laws of the Republic of Belarus, noted Sergei Rachkov during the event. “Thus, in accordance with Paragraph 5 of Article 3 of the Education Code of the Republic of Belarus, foreign citizens and stateless persons who have been granted refugee status or asylum in our country have the same education rights as citizens of the Republic of Belarus,” the senator emphasized. “Minors who apply for refugee status, additional protection or asylum in the Republic of Belarus, have the right to pre-school, general secondary education and vocational training on an equal basis with minor citizens of Belarus,” Sergei Rachkov remarked.
As to citizens of Ukraine, the presidential decree allows legal representatives of minors not to submit the required documents to educational institutions, if they cannot obtain such documents for objective reasons, the parliamentarian added. “During the migration crisis on the western border of Belarus last year, Belarus arranged training for refugee children,” Sergei Rachkov informed.
